“The works in this collection, Metrospection, comprises three collections of paintings created between 2015 and 2017. In the more than 2 years’ creative process, I have devoted time and great effort to achieve the target I set for myself. I consider the long period it took me as embarking on a journey to a faraway land full of mystery, a place I’ve never known. The work process enabled me to learn, experiment and have fun in discovering new knowledge, comparable to finding oneself at a “crossroads”, just waiting for me to enter, explore and search for new conception and imagination to uncover an infinite path of working.
Metrospection stems from combining the word ‘metropolis’, which means capital city or urban center, with the word “introspection” which has connotations of reviewing or pondering, soul searching or exploring one’s inner feelings. By merging these two words, a new word is crafted, denoting a city of exploration and contemplation of certain things relating to concepts and deep sensibility of both the audience and myself who created the works.”
