Welcome to Thaillywood
As we continue preparing to welcome our very first artist this coming January, we would like to take a moment to welcome you to our site and share with you some thoughts about our artist blog. We feel the artist blog will further enrich the Thaillywood experience for all, and we’re excited to tell you more about it.
As our personal statement declares, Thaillywood seeks to promote contemporary artistic practices while fostering an ongoing, global conversation rooted in openness, freedom, experimentation, and collaboration. We hope to achieve this primarily through bringing together talented emerging artists from around the world, with diverse experiences and backgrounds, to live and work together in the same space here at the Thaillywood house. We anticipate truly wonderful things to come from the experience.
However, a few months ago, we felt that maybe there was more we could do to stimulate intercultural dialogue on an even wider scale. We began wondering: How can we welcome as many people as possible to join the Thaillywood experience? How can we stimulate an even larger conversation? How can we promote open-mindedness and shared understanding on the highest level possible?
The artist blog was born.
Given the ubiquity of modern technology and the interconnectedness that has come with it, we see our artist blog as an effective and engaging way to bridge the gap between Thaillywood and art enthusiasts everywhere. While at Thaillywood, each artist will be asked to use our artist blog as a tool to periodically “open up” and shine a light on his or her artistic practices and invite the art global community to have a peak into their day-to-day experiences at Thaillywood. One week, we may see photos and a brief description of a particularly harrowing experiences like gathering supplies on a motorbike in rural Thailand. Another week, we may find a video that captures moments of a unique art workshop held with the kids of Nongjetjai. Yet another may give us a glimpse into the last-minute work going towards an approaching exhibition.
With each contribution, we encourage our artists to be open and honest about their experiences at the house. Likewise, with each blog post, we encourage our followers to post questions, thoughts, and encouragement for our artists. We envision a fruitful conversation taking shape, and we want you to be a part of it. We are excited for this journey to begin, and we sincerely hope you will join us.
Please check back in the coming weeks. We’ll soon reveal Thaillywood’s first artist-in-residence!
